Remote Access to Electronic Resources via our Proxy Server
If you are outside the institute`s IP range, please click
to access the proxy server. Please use your normal institute login (the one you are using to log in to your computer and email account) to authenticate (this is based on a secure connection). If you are encountering login problems, please contact Karina Näthe ().
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Proxy?
A proxy server (in our case: EZProxy) enables users to access licensed electronic resources (journal full texts, databases and e-books) from at home or en-route. As all of our licensed resources are registered on the institute`s IP address, this works by rerouting your request to the institute`s domain so that you would access a resource from an institute`s IP address.
Who is entitled to have remote access to library resources?
According to copyright law and license agreements all members of staff with contract of employment or guest contract with the institute are able to access electronic resources via remote access. We are sorry that we are not able to provide remote access to trainees and graduants.
How to: Some things you should consider when using EZProxy
It is only possible to use EZProxy when actually accessing our resources. EZProxy skips you automatically when accessing web pages that are not configured through EZProxy. To continue, please choose one of the links to our resources and services on the proxy starting page. If you just copy an URL into your browser`s address bar, you leave the proxy and have to login again.
In this case, please just re-enter the
the start page again. The cookie for your account information will be valid for two hours. After that, you will have to re-authenticate. Rerouting to the proxy server is only valid for that browser window which you used to authenticate to the proxy. Other browser windows can be used for
normal surfing.
The proxy works independently from operating systems and browsers (except in the case of AOL; as a AOL customer please use a standard browser like Mozilla or Internet Explorer).
"I logged in to EZproxy but nothing seems to happen"
Please check these four settings in your browser:
- Pop-up blocker : Disable pop-up blockers while you are using EZproxy.
- Firewall : If you see This page cannot be displayed , it usually means a firewall issue on your side. If you have installed personal firewall software you need to allow access to "browser.cbs.mpg.de" (or 194.95.183.244)
- Cookies : EZproxy sends Cookies when you connect to it to verify that you are an authorized user. If your browser reports an error receiving a Cookie , you have to enable them in your browser settings: please change browser options to accept all Cookies . The default setting for most browsers will accept EZproxy cookies without a problem.
- JavaScript : Again, the default setting for most browsers will work well with EZproxy's JavaScript . However, if you changed it, you will need to enable it again in order to use the proxy.
I do not have full text access though I think I should
Either this means you tried to access a database or web site that has not been configured through our proxy yet. The information provider may have changed their web address. Or we actually have a temporary access problem which is indepentant from proxy issues. Please just send Karina Näthe () an email that includes the error message.
