Welcome
The interplay between cognition and action has long been neglected in Behavioral and Brain Sciences. In both psychology and neurophysiology there has been a broad theoretical and experimental tradition for studying perception on the one hand and cognition on the other hand. The same applies, to a somewhat lesser degree, to the study of movement and action, though the interplay between these domains has not been systematically studied. In recent years, however, new theoretical approaches and new experimental paradigms have been developed that allow to tackle these issues in novel ways.
The Leipzig Encounters in Cognition and Action are meant to reflect this new development and, at the same time, to provide an opportunity to reflect on its implications for ongoing and future research. Each Encounter will focus on a particular theme from the broad field of interactions between cognition and action and will bring a small number of leading researchers together, who have made significant contributions to the field.
Leipzig Encounters of Cognition and Action are a revival of our series of Munich Encounters (MECA) organized by and held at the Max Planck Institute for Psychological Research in Munich, Germany.
