Hands-On Introduction to Preregistration

In this two-part workshop, participants will learn the ‘what’, ‘why’, and ‘how’ of preregistering a study in a hands-on way. We will start out with a brief theoretical introduction into what preregistrations are and why they are useful. Then, we will have a look at some practical examples of preregistrations, especially those for neurophysiological and neuroimaging studies. We will discuss what makes a preregistration good or bad and how to deal with deviations from the preregistration in a paper.

In the second part, we will work to create preregistration templates for M/EEG and (f)MRI studies and/or improve existing templates. Based on their interests, participants can choose which method and which part of the template (e.g., preprocessing, statistical analyses, etc.) to work on. The goal for the second part of the workshop is to create templates that will eventually be uploaded to the Open Science Resource Wiki so that they can be used by everyone at the institute, as well as the OSF as additional preregistration template specifically for neurophysiological/-imaging studies.

The workshop builds on peer-building and there is no prior knowledge of preregistrations necessary to participate. Everybody is welcome! Participants can choose to sign up for the first part, second part, or both.
