In this talk I will discuss applied methods and selected findings from a recent project focussing on brain changes during the transition from adolescence into adulthood (Ziegler/Hauser et al., Nat Neuro, 2019). Capitalising on a large longitudinal dataset including myelin-sensitive magnetization transfer (MT) MRI, we explore brain-wide growth of MT and show that compulsivity and impulsivity traits were tied to regionally specific aberrant unfolding of these MT trajectories. In follow-up work we further determined how early life socioeconomic disadvantage may affect myelin growth in adolescence and young adulthood (https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/589713v1).
