Cognitive impairement is a hallmark feature of depression, related to attention and memory problems. These impairements frequently persist even after remission. In order to understand these problems we present basic work on the nature of these impairments. Subsequently, I will discuss research that tries to remediate these impairments through cognitive training. Especially in individuals remitted from depression there is emerging evidence that remediating cognitive impairments can serve as a relapse prevention strategy.
