In this talk I will briefly introduce some basic principles of computational anatomy. The most commonly used method in this field is voxel-based morphometry (VBM) that can be used in cross-sectional as well as longitudinal studies to find subtle changes in brain structure. In recent years more sophisticated techniques were developed to also extract the cortical surface utilizing the analysis of surface-based measures such as cortical thickness or gyrification.

I will give a short overview about some of the underlying techniques and will finally demonstrate some applications of these approaches.
