Special Collections

As a specialized research library, the MPI CBS Library has a unique mission and, accordingly, maintains several media collections that differ from those of a public library and cannot be classified within the general library collection.
These include:

Test Library

The library has a very large stock of tests, which is indispensable for the studies at the institute.

These tests are located in the basement next to the stairs and authorized for borrowing.

The current inventory includes more than 700 different procedures (tests) that scientists at the Institute may borrow from the library.

You can use them as a long-term lending. Please ask the library team.

If you need a test, which is not in the library stock, we try to order it immediately.
You only have to fill in the form and bring it to the library.

You can find mor information about the Test Library in our MAX page.

Archive

The archive of the library assumes the function of a media-archive.

It contains books, which were written by members of the institute and which contains articles written by members of the institute.

You can also find the Instituts yearbook in the archive.

The archive is located in the basement (UG) of the library on the right site.

The books of the archive are characterised by the shelfmarks “AR” and the grey “Instituts-Archiv” sticker on the top of the book spine.

Here you can find the collection Archive in the OPAC.

Equal Reads

When you enter the library, our gender equality shelf is located right across from the stairs. There you’ll find both children’s books about strong girls of all skin colors—such as stories by Jane Austen or Malala Yousafzai adapted for children (suitable for ages 8 or 10 and up, depending on the topic)—as well as feminist literature and self-help books on topics like menopause or health and fitness, and books about inspiring people of color and Black people of all genders. And, of course, stories about scientists and their arduous journeys. Our equality shelf is not just for women, but for everyone; and especially for anyone who has ever thought about fairness and equality.

You can find more information about this shelf on the MAX page for equal opportunities.

Collection Prinz

The Collection Prinz belonged to Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Prinz - Director Emeritus of the Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences.

Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Prinz has been Director at the Max Planck Institute for Psychological Research in Munich from 1990 to 2004.  In 2004 the Institute was integrated at the Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences in Leipzig. Here he was Director of the Department of Psychology until his retirement in 2010.

He left behind a comprehensive and impressive collection of about 220 titles for the period 1796 to 1987.

The titles are very valuable and are located in our glass cabinet. The books may not be taken outside the library. Please ask the library team.

Here you can find all books of the collection.

Books Tips

At the entrance to the library you will find a selection of interesting new books. These books called "Book Tips" are suggestions from your library commission.

These books are loanable.

This books are marked in our OPAC with the OPAC note "Book-Tips-Collection".

Book Exchange Shelf

When you enter the library, you’ll find our book exchange shelf right on your right.

The idea is simple: Take a book and/or leave a book! No matter what kind of book it is (academic, self-help, novels, fiction, textbooks, etc.), everything here is meant to be shared and taken home. No loan period and no need to return it. It’s a gift.
So if you see a book that catches your interest, feel free to take it and keep it. And if you have a book at home that you no longer need but still think is good, feel free to add it to the shelf. Any topic is welcome. This keeps the book exchange shelf lively, exciting, and diverse.
