Sex and mentrual cycle influence on cardial interoception

The aim of our study is to investigate the ability to perceive one's own heartbeat across the menstrual cycle and to what extent hormonal contraceptives may influence this perception. In order to analyze sex-specific differences, the study will also include a male participant group.

Procedure

  • 3 appointments in total
  • 1st appointment: Overview of the study, planning of further sessions, questionnaires (approx. 1.5 hours)
  • 2nd and 3rd appointment: EEG and ECG measurments, while working on tasks (approx. 3.5 hours per day)

Compensation

15€/h

Requirements

  • Male participants, aged between 18 and 35 years
  • No use of hormone-containing medications
  • No competitive sports or professional bodybuilding
  • No regular, excessive video game use (>14h per week or regularly >2h per day)
  • No heavy cigarette consumption (max. 5/day), alcohol or drug abuse
  • No history of mental illness
  • No history of heart disease or diabetes
  • No use of medications that affect blood pressure
