Modulating somatosensory function by frequency-adapted transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS)

In this project, we adapt transcranial alternating current stimulation to endogenous somatosensory mu-alpha oscillations and investigate effects on a behavioral (somatosensory perceptual thresholds) and network level (resting- and task-based functional network connectivity by multimodal tACS – fMRI). Major aims of this project are to investigate (i) the function of mu-alpha oscillations by directly interfering with it and (ii) to assess how individually adapted brain stimulation protocols might help to shape both functional and spatial specificity.
