Analogical reasoning, the ability to understand relational similarities between two situations, is a hallmark of human intelligence. How the human brain enables analogical thinking is yet not well understood. Previous neuroimaging and lesion studies revealed which brain regions are involved in this process, but the underlying neural mechanisms remain to be investigated. In this project we will examine the representational geometry underlying a semantic analogical reasoning task using fMRI and multivoxel pattern analyses, with the aim to evaluate predictions derived from cognitive theories about the underlying mechanisms.
