Spatial hearing is important for scene segregation, but most of the current hearing aids drastically disturb spatial cues. I‘d like to understand how people adapt and learn to make sense of these disturbed cues. My particular approach is to move experiments out of the highly controlled, but often artificial, laboratory environment and into the complex, multisensory, and poorly controlled real world. I will discuss experiments and techniques to modify spatial hearing in natural environments and track adaptation and brain plasticity in response to the modification.
