We are beyond delighted to announce the launch of a new biweekly lecture series: Foundations of Cognitive Science, led by Dr. Fiora Salis, a philosopher based at the University of York (UK) and guest scientist in our department.
- What is this lecture series about? -
The goal is to explore the conceptual foundations and key questions of cognitive science from a theoretical and historical perspective.
- Is this the lecture series for me? -
Fiora designed an exciting discussion-based series. You will be encouraged to engage in small group and large group discussions on specific questions and topics that will be introduced and articulated in the lectures starting from your own background knowledge, experience and understanding of cognitive science. Do not worry - you will be well taken care of!
- Scheduled Lectures -
Lecture 1: Cognitive Science: One or Many? (Nov 6)
Lecture 2: Symbolicism, or Mind as Computer (21 Nov)
Lecture 3: Connectionism, or Mind as Brain (04 Dec)
Lecture 4: Dynamicism, or Mind as Body (18 Dec)
**Lecture 1 will introduce the series and some of the key questions and issues that we will further explore in the rest of the series. Independent research on the specific frameworks discussed in Lectures 2-4 is encouraged, but not required.**
